May 18 marks the 49th International Museum Day, with this year’s theme being "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities." According to statistics, as of now, the Hemudu Site Museum, which opened on May 12, 1993, has received over 9.5 million visitors.
The Hemudu Site Museum is a specialised museum showcasing the archaeological discoveries and research achievements related to the Hemudu Culture.
The Hemudu Site was discovered in 1973. Excavations have unearthed a wealth of rice cultivation remains dating back 6,000 to 7,000 years, distinctive charcoal-tempered pottery, well-developed stilt-style architecture, and exquisite prehistoric artworks. These findings confirm that the Yangtze River Basin is also a cradle of ancient Chinese civilisation. As one of the most significant Neolithic cultures in the Yangtze region, the Hemudu Culture holds great importance for studying the origins and development of Chinese civilisation.
