“Very good!” On the evening of July 19, at the “Sweet Peach Aroma at Dongqian Lake” Common Prosperity Market in Huchen Township, Ninghai County, a group of international students from Ningbo University excitedly praised the local peaches after tasting them for the first time.
After a summer rain, the air by Dongqian Lake was especially refreshing that evening. As night fell, the lively market event attracted large crowds of locals and tourists alike. The venue was lined with market stalls, not only offering fresh Huchen peaches but also peach-based beverages, peach gum products, and local specialities like Huchen baby potatoes, drawing eager visitors to taste and buy.
The event featured live performances, including singing and saxophone music, along with interactive sessions that let attendees enjoy food, entertainment, and the charm of Hu Chen peaches all in one place. Among the crowd, a group of international guests stood out. They gathered around the peach stalls, visibly intrigued, giving enthusiastic thumbs-up as they sampled the fruit, exclaiming: “Delicious! Very delicious!”
“I’m an international student from Bangladesh studying at Ningbo University. Huchen’s peaches are amazing — we can’t get fruit this delicious back home,” said a student who goes by the Chinese name Wang Wei. “I’ve been studying in Ningbo for 8 years and am now in grad school. These peaches are juicy, super sweet — Very good!”
Another female student, holding a peach in her hands, couldn’t put it down. She introduced herself as Xiaoyang, from Morocco: “The peaches I tried today were delicious and sweet — I love them!”
According to reporters, this group of 7–8 international students learned about the event through a notice shared by their university. “It’s a Saturday, and the event is at the beautiful Dongqian Lake — plus we could taste peaches, so we decided to come as a group!” one student shared.
Since 2000, the township has heavily invested in developing its peach industry, which now covers 15,000 mu (approximately 2,500 acres). Constantly innovating, the area now cultivates over 20 peach varieties, with the “Lakeview Yulu” variety especially popular among consumers. Thanks to this diversity, the harvest season extends from May through September.
